detailed Description

Purple Spinel – 9.90 Carats, Beyond the Ordinary

Fine spinel at this weight does not simply appear. It emerges – rarely, unpredictably and always on its own terms. While the majority of quality spinels remain well below five carats, a stone of 9.90 carats occupies a different world entirely. This is not a gemstone that completes a jewellery piece. This is a gemstone around which something entirely new gets designed.

The colour is classified as grey-purple – and that description rewards patience. The grey here is not a flaw in the colour, it is the making of it. It strips away anything too sweet or obvious, adds gravity and complexity, and creates a hue that shifts convincingly between cool lavender, smoky violet and a deep, almost hypnotic purple depending entirely on the light source and the angle of observation. In daylight it is one thing. Under warm light it becomes another. That kind of behaviour is not common. It is what collectors spend years searching for.

The antique rectangle cut – a step cut with gently cropped corners – is the most honest cut a gemstone can wear. There is no complex facet architecture to create distraction or disguise. Instead, it opens the interior of the stone like a carefully placed window, drawing the eye directly into its depth through clean, parallel lines. At eye-clean clarity, there is nothing to interrupt that view. What you see looking into this spinel is simply the stone itself – and that is more than enough.

Certified by both GRS (Gem Research Swisslab) and GLA (Gemmological Laboratory Austria), two of the most respected independent gemological laboratories in the world. Both confirm what matters most: untreated. No heat, no enhancement, no intervention of any kind. The colour, the clarity and the character of this spinel are entirely natural – which, at this size, elevates it from remarkable to genuinely extraordinary.

Stones like this appear on the market once in a long while. This is one of those moments.
