Necklaces with precious gemstones are ideal gifts that come from the heart and should be worn close to the heart. They can become beautiful mementos of a loved one, while also serving as sparkling companions to an evening dress or everyday outfit. What is the difference between a necklace and a choker? The term “collar” comes from the French “col”, for neck, and “lier”, for to bind. The term is often used synonymously with the word “necklace”. Strictly speaking, however, the difference between a necklace and a necklace is their length and design.
The necklace (with a length of about 40 cm) is comparatively close to the neck. It can consist of several links and be movable or non-movable. Necklaces are often decorated with many precious stones or have been particularly elaborately crafted.
Necklaces, on the other hand, are longer than 40 cm and therefore do not fit snugly. They consist of individual links and are flexible. One or more gemstones can be incorporated into necklaces. However, these are usually combined with a large or small gemstone pendant.
Types of chains for gemstone necklaces: There are many different types of chains. They differ primarily in the shape of the individual chain links and how the links are connected. In addition, some chains are flat and wide, like a thin belt. Others, however, are round, like a cord.
Some of the most well-known types of chains are:
Anchor chains: consist of many oval or square links that interlock horizontally and vertically. This type of chain is also used (in larger dimensions) in shipping – hence the name. Variants of the anchor chain include flat, round or twin anchor chains. Curb chains: consist of (usually oval) links that lie as flat as possible on top of each other. This makes the chain resemble a flat band, which makes it comfortable to wear. Variants of curb chain include pin curb chain, flat-filed curb chain and S-curb chain. Plait chains: the pattern resembles tightly plaited hair. Braided chains can be flat or round, worn alone or with gemstone pendants.
A good clasp for your gemstone chains: lobster clasps or rings. The clasp of a necklace should be able to withstand a lot. Magnetic clasps, for example, are not only easy to close, but also to open again. You could accidentally lose your new gemstone necklace, and thieves would have an easier time getting it.
A lobster clasp or ring clasp is the better choice. The end links of the chain are connected to each other and can only be opened by a targeted movement.
Matching the high-quality gemstone: jewelry chains made of platinum, gold or silver. At IGNEOUS, we place great value on high jewelry quality. Starting with our gemstones with certificates of authenticity, to the material for settings and chains.
That is why you will primarily find necklaces made of precious metals such as silver, white, yellow or red gold, as well as platinum and their alloys.
With proper care and storage, your gemstone necklaces will stay beautiful for a long time. Good care and proper storage are essential to ensure that your necklace will still shine in years to come and that the gemstones in it will remain free of scratches.
Always store your jewelry individually. Otherwise, softer gemstones could be scratched by harder ones.
We recommend that you take off your necklaces when showering, exercising, visiting the sauna or sunbathing. Silver and gold chains could lose their color due to salt water or chlorinated water. Sensitive gemstones could even be destroyed.
Wipe your chains carefully with a soft cloth. Make sure that no chemicals come into contact with your jewelry. If your jewelry is very dirty or shows signs of wear, it is better to have it cleaned by a jeweler or goldsmith.
