Pink Sapphire 1.23 ct
The sapphire is a variety of the mineral corundum.
This gemstone has a pink color and weighs approximately 1.2 carats. The stone is 7.6 mm long, 4.75 mm wide, and 3.6 mm deep.
GGTL (Global Gem Testing Laboratory Sri Lanka) has also identified an orange hue in this stone and classified it as Padparadscha. Upon further inspection, a light orange tone is visible in the dichroscope. However, the gemological community is not in agreement on the definition of Padparadscha. Richard W. Hughes, author of the standard work "Ruby & Sapphire," has published an interesting article on the subject of "Padparadscha" on his website. This article can be viewed here.
The price has been set by GLA (Gemmological Laboratory Austria) for a pink sapphire, and this is how the stone is being offered. Padparadscha sapphires are generally more expensive than pink sapphires. Therefore, this stone is being sold as the more affordable option.
This sapphire has small inclusions and exhibits good color quality.
The transparent stone has been cut into a faceted antique oval, with a modified brilliant-cut crown and a faceted pavilion. The 1.2-carat stone shows no signs of thermal treatment.
