Welo Opal 12.17 ct
This precious opal displays a very good play-of-color. The characteristics of this opal point to the Welo deposit in Ethiopia. This is an opal that can absorb water, which is why these opals are referred to in the trade as “Hydrophane Opals.” The weight of these opals can slightly vary depending on the humidity. When they come into contact with water, they can absorb it, which may lead to color changes. Jewelry featuring hydrophane opals should not be excessively exposed to water.
This opal has been cut as a cabochon with an oval shape, and both sides are polished.
